New to Helsingborg, what not to miss?

Portrait of Lucas, interviewed in the article. Photo.

Lucas, an active board member of Ingenjörssektionen, has generous tips for both new students and those already in Helsingborg. We asked him a few questions to get his insider knowledge on how to navigate student life and take advantage of all that Helsingborg has to offer.

You come as a new student to the city, how do you get to know people?

The best way to get to know new people is to participate in the introduction weeks held at Campus, these weeks are packed with lots of fun events, study evenings and excursions. Then we also have the student association Stampus which offers a lot of committees such as football, floorball, baking etc. that you can get involved in, which always leads to getting to know more people.

As a student in a new city, it can be good to know the most affordable lunch spot, where can you find it?

Definitely Happy Falafel. It's a bit tucked away but there's something special about getting a kebab roll with coriander for 45 SEK.

It's important to take breaks from studying sometimes too, what do you usually do then?

If it's time to put away the books, I would take a walk up to Viskängen, with an ice cream in my hand of course!

When you have been studying for some time, it also becomes time to celebrate the end of the exam period. How do you usually do it?

It depends on how I feel that the exam in question has gone. But I must admit that I am really weak for a good burger and then there are two places that fit really well! Either we go to Tugg Burgers or we go to Diné, both of which have really high standards.

If we go back to being new in Helsingborg, what should you not miss while you are here?

It has to be to take a "Tura", you go over Öresund with the ferries that run between Helsingborg and Helsingör. Ideally, you want to go with the boat called Aurora which departs from Helsingborg every hour, but if the weather is really good, the boat Tycho Brahe has a nice sun deck too! If you're feeling up to it, it's also not a bad idea to step ashore on the other side of the strait and have a pölse (a Danish hotdog).
